A Client Charged in Road Rage Incident is Acquitted
Acclaim was called in to uncover and secure a factual account of what happened in a case of road rage that culminated in a near-fatal stabbing in a chain store parking lot.
Defense attorneys questioned the police account of a heated traffic exchange that led to their client stabbing and seriously injuring another man.
Acclaim investigators interviewed witnesses to the altercation. Witness accounts varied substantially, but there was one point of agreement: the stabbing victim had punched the defendant and thrown him to the ground.
The defendant told police he had felt severely threatened. He maintained his actions were self-defense against a larger and stronger assailant. He told investigators he had shown the stabbing victim his knife, hoping to stop the altercation.
The defendant said the victim threatened to take the knife and kill him with it. His young son was in the vehicle with him and the defendant worried what the man might do to his son after he killed the defendant. In his eyes, the stabbing was a case of self-defense.
The case made its way to trial, and the jury agreed. Based upon a crime scene recreation of the incident by Acclaim Investigations, the defendant was acquitted and released.
